Research roadmap in Food and Health

Background

A major initiative is underway in Europe to map out the optimal direction of research in food and health for the EU. This initiative is called the European Technology Platform "Food for Life". It brings together members from acadaemia, industry and funding agencies. IFHRA aims to complement this activity on the island of Ireland.

Planned Activities

Phase 1

It will begin with an audit of existing research activity, research infrastructure and research skills. This audit will be conducted by each partner in 2009.

Phase 2

This will integrate the results of the audit into an all-Ireland position paper. The position paper is due in 2010.

Phase 3

A report will be prepared for the relevant funding agencies in 2010. It will outline the strategic choices to be made to ensure that food and health research on the island of Ireland will be internationally competitive.
