IFHRA builds on a rich tradition of inter-institutional collaboration in the agri-food sector in Ireland. Teagasc, the Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority, hosts two Food Research Centres at Ashtown, Dublin and at Moorepark, Cork. UCD has a formal research agreement with the former and UCC with the latter. The Irish Universities Nutrition Alliance IUNA (UCC, UCD, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University of Ulster (UU); www.iuna.net) now operating in its 20th year, brings together joint research programmes in public health nutrition and in molecular nutrition as well as jointly taught MSc programmes. IFHRA’s core objective was to address key infrastructural deficits of regional and national importance to the field of Food and Health research. IFHRA supports development of a strategic interface for the Food and Health Research agenda on an All-Island basis, thus ensuring a cohesive and integrated national framework for research and training in the area of food and health and associated agri-food related areas
Objectives:
- Cohesive planning and participation by HEIs on an all-island basis;
- Mobility and training of young researchers
- Planning for International funding, in particular, Horizon 2020
